Dogs are curious animals and they love to get into things that are stinky. Occasionally, the stink finds them in the form of a curious black and white animal known as the “skunk.” If your dog encounters a skunk, whether in your pasture, ally or backyard, your dog is going to have a hard time controlling his curiosity, which usually means he’s going to come home smelling like his new “friend.”
When a dog startles a skunk, it will begin by making a purring or even growling sound. The animal warns your dog by raising his tail, but if the dog does not retreat, the skunk begins to stand on its hind legs while stomping with the front. The sulphuric spray or mercaptan not only smells horrible, but also may blind a dog for up to two days. If your dog finds a skunk, chances are they are going to find a little more than they bargained for as well.
